The City in the Valley

across the water,
past the forest island,
beyond the cranes,
away from docks
lies the city in the valley.
No longest bridge,
nor strongest plane,
nor fastest boat in harbor,
no trusted ship,
no vessel at all
can reach the city in the valley.
Not dragon beast,
nor gryphon strong,
nor faery swift and fair,
no water, wind,
nor fire fiend
can see the city in the valley.
No ruler bold
nor wizard old
nor prophet under drug,
though they may fear,
they still can't hear
bells from the city in the valley.
But if you're brave,
and if you're bold,
and if your heart rings true,
you may yet feel
the trust and love
of the city in the valley.
